Las Ventanas: Upscale Mexican food in familiar hacienda
Many Houston foodies moped when Las Alamedas closed in February 2009 over a lease dispute. Opened in 1980, the pink hacienda on Interstate 10 at Voss had long been noted for its wooded bayou view (alameda means park), Old Mexico décor, and Mexico City-style cuisine. But the place turned out to be a kind of culinary hydra. Its demise spawned not one but two new eateries farther west, both of which hew pretty closely to the original Las Alamedas menu and taste in interior design. Jorge Sneider and business partner Mike Krehel recently opened a new Las Alamedas in La Centerra at Cinco Ranch in Katy, and in May Sneider and his son Alex unveiled the estimable Las Ventanas Restaurant & Cantina a little closer to town, just off State Highway 6 near I-10 in the former home of the Grisby Grill. feeds.bizjournals.com |
